Busting EV Myths, One at a Time

Myth: Driving an electric vehicle won't make a difference with climate change.

Fact: In Washington State, as well as the US, the transportation sector is the largest source of climate changing emissions (over 40%). Driving an EV instead of a fossil fuel vehicle is the single greatest action we, as individuals, can take to reduce our climate changing emissions and reduce the impacts of climate change on our world.

The Keeling Curve

In 1958, Dr. Charles Keeling began measuring the daily concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere at the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii. At that time, the air contained 315 ppm CO2. The data clearly show carbon dioxide levels have been increasing steadily ever since.

Last month, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the air surpassed 420 ppm, a new record. When today's CO2 levels are compared with the levels measured in air bubbles in Antarctic ice, the data show that Earth's atmosphere has more CO2 today than ever before in human history. It is time to stop burning carbon. In other words, there is no better time to switch to driving an electric vehicle than right now.
