The Changing Charging Landscape - 2021

It has been a while since I checked in at the National Alternative Fuels Data Center. Today I was pretty surprised by the accumulated number of Level 3 chargers available in the United States. Not unexpected, Tesla maintains the lead with 10,626 outlets. “Outlets” are defined by the NAFDC as individual handles or connectors, not locations. What was unexpected is that the CCS connector population has grown to 7,034 outlets. The CHAdeMO population is 5,191. One factor in the growth of CCS and CHAdeMO is that Electrify America has been quite active over the last three years. Partnering with Walmart they have established many new charging opportunities across America. These installations are usually a mix of CCS and one or two CHAdeMO connectors. The NAFDC site has a route planner as well as an easy to use data viewer it is an interesting and informative site.
